Big Leaf Maple
Big Leaf Maple, also referred to as broadleaf maple, Oregon maple, or Acer macrophyllum, is native to coastal regions of Pacific North America. While slightly less hard than eastern soft maple, bigleaf maple possesses a close-knit grain that can result in graceful, shimmering lines when polished. Stunning burls can also be found in bigleaf maple lumber, resulting in a particularly figured wood.
Big Leaf maple is a highly valuable tree in the native forests of western North America. In Washington and Oregon, Big Leaf maple is traditionally used for interior construction, furniture, axe handles, and broomsticks, while serving as shade and street trees in all of the Pacific states.
We currently have some beautiful maple harvested from Bainbridge Island, Washington. While we don’t currently have any projects pictured in the finish, we will be adding images soon so stay tuned!
